Local Businesses and Young People celebrate awards success
Learners and employers from across Lancashire celebrated their success at the Second Learning Agreement Pilot awards ceremony on 25th September 2008.
Nominees from across the county were whittled down to just five winners announced at the ceremony held at Deepdale Stadium.
Guests at the event were treated to an inspirational speech from Olympic swimmer Steve Parry, Bronze medallist from the 2004 Athens Olympics. Steve spoke of his experience in turning failure into success, and how this can be down to attitude and mindset, inspiring the young people and employers at the event to reach for their goals. Hosting the evenings proceedings were new Rock FM double act Hywel and Jamie.
The celebration event acknowledged the dedication and commitment of everyone involved in the project, which has helped over 2800 16-17 year olds in Lancashire so far.
Most Improved Learner Award
Jessica Aspinall, Chorley – Training Provider, North Lancs Training Group
Jessica was recognised for her dedication and determination to learning, completing an apprenticeship that is designed to last two years in just 12 months.
Most Committed Learner Award
Dean Crowther, Blackburn – Training Provider, North Lancs Training Group
Dean’s award recognised his dedication to the Learning Agreement Pilot, which has helped him to enrol on a Hospitality Apprenticeship.
Learner of the Year Award and Most Inspirational Learner Award.
Natalie Baillie, Colne - Training Provider, Blackburn College
The awards recognise Natalie’s commitment to the Learning Agreement Pilot, which has helped her to gain a BTEC National Diploma in Fashion and Design. Natalie has now further proved her dedication by securing a place on Salford University’s Fashion and Design degree course.
Most Supportive Employer Award
IGM UK Ltd, Rossendale - Training Provider, Myerscough College
IGM UK Ltd has helped one of its employees to gain basic skills qualifications and now study towards a full Apprenticeship. IGM’s owner, Steven Ashworth received special recognition for his caring and understanding approach to his employees.
Most Innovative Employer Award
APD Leisure, Morecambe - Training Provider, Beneast
APD Leisure was recognised for its dedication to the Learning Agreement Pilot, which has helped a high number of their employees to gain basic skills qualifications and now study towards achieving an NVQ.
Ian Haworth, Director of Area for the LSC in Lancashire said, “The competition was very strong. The celebration was a great way to recognise the hard work of all those involved, and a great opportunity to look back on how much they have all achieved.”
