The future’s calling for young people at APD Leisure
Young employees at APD Leisure call centres in Heysham and Morecambe have been watching their “P’s and Q’s” thanks to the Learning Agreement Pilot.
Seventeen employees aged between 16-17 have been undertaking training whilst working towards their NVQ Level 1 in Contact Centre Operations. This has involved tuition in customer care, personal and organisational effectiveness and interpersonal communication.
Employer David Wild signed up to the scheme in July 2007, as he was interested in developing his employees through recognised qualifications that would increase the knowledge and skills of his workforce. Gary Ritchie APD Call Centre Manager commented, “The team have learnt some very valuable communication skills and their ability to deal with the customers has improved greatly, they are far more courteous and sympathetic towards the caller’s needs.”
Eighteen year old employee Joan Marshall Young is soon to complete her training, she said of the scheme, “I feel so much more confident while dealing with customers now and as a team we are working together better than ever. As I come to the end of my training I can already see that my sales figures have picked up and I feel a real sense of achievement.”
Seventeen year old Scarlett Lee agrees, “I have a better understanding of people now, I can make my customers feel at ease and I am a lot more comfortable with the conversation. I think the training has been great and I am keen to progress to the next level.”
Gary concluded, “For us the Learning Agreement Pilot has been a brilliant success, we are now looking forward seeing the results of further training.”
